Contact Forms
Chris Wolfe's Web Site uses its best efforts to respect the privacy of their online visitors. ChrisWolfe.net only gathers personally identifiable data, such as names, addresses, e-mail addresses, etc. when voluntarily submitted by the visitor. This information is used solely by Chris Wolfe for internal purposes and is not sold or transferred to third parties. Only visitors who request e-mail will receive e-mail. We reserve the right to update this policy at any time. Be sure to check this page periodically for changes.
In addition our site may provide links to other Internet Web sites that are not under the control of Chris Wolfe. We assume no responsibility for the content of any non-ChrisWolfe.net linked Internet Web site. A link to an Internet Web site should not be considered an endorsement by us or the Web site, its owner or of the site's privacy policies.
Visitors who submit a contact form should be aware that doing so may set a cookie (see below for more information on cookies). We use a standard server-side mechanism to process the data from the form and to return a "thank you" page. Again, the user can choose not to accept the cookie without interfering with the form submission or site content and function in any way.
Server Logs
Through the normal course of serving up pages, our Web server creates a log file that records specific information each time a request is made. (A request is a call to the server to view a page, download a file or perform an action.) Specifically, the information captured includes:
The IP (Internet Protocol) address of the individual
computer (or proxy server) making the request
The date and time the request is made
The referring URL
The user-agent (the browser and operating system the user has)
This information is collected into a text file, but the raw data alone does not tell us much. In order to make sense of it, we use software that analyzes the log file in aggregate form. The results of the analysis yield quite a bit more information.
For example, since all IP addresses are licensed to a specific domain (such as chriswolfe.net), the software can track an individual IP address back to the domain from which a request originated. In other words, we can determine what domain a user is coming from, but we have no way of knowing precisely who that user is.
The software also reports the most frequently accessed areas of our site; what links users are following to reach our site; and the browsers and operating systems visitors use. This information allows us to learn about our customer base as a whole, and helps us better understand how people use our Web site.
Again, all the information we collect via server log files is used in aggregate form only. We do not attempt, in any way, to analyze information for a single visitor. This information is used for internal purposes only; we do not share it with third parties.
Cookies
Each time a visitor hits the main page on our site (www.chriswolfe.net), a cookie may be set. (Cookies are files stored on a visitor's computer that can record information about that user's visit to the site. The information in the file can be sent back to the server during future visits.) A visitor can decide not to accept the cookie without affecting the appearance or content of this page in any way. We do not attempt to access any information stored in this cookie file at any time.
If you have any questions about these policies, please contact the managing editor of our Web site by mail, phone, or fax.
